Pimlico Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, contractors, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our moving and storage activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks associated with removals, transportation, handling, packing, loading, unloading and related services.

Our aim is to prevent injury, ill health, damage to property and harm to the environment. We recognise our responsibility to comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across our operations.

Management Responsibility and Commitment

The management of Pimlico Removals has overall responsibility for health and safety performance within the company. Management will provide leadership, allocate appropriate resources and ensure that effective systems are in place to manage risks associated with our removal services.

We will regularly review our health and safety arrangements to ensure they remain suitable, sufficient and effective. This includes monitoring performance, investigating incidents and taking corrective action where required. Health and safety considerations will form an integral part of business planning, decision-making and operational practice.

Employee Responsibilities

All employees, whether full-time, part-time or temporary, have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must cooperate fully with health and safety instructions, procedures and training provided by the company.

Employees are required to use equipment properly, follow safe working methods, wear any personal protective equipment issued and report hazards, near misses, accidents and unsafe practices without delay. Failure to follow health and safety rules may result in disciplinary action.

Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices

Pimlico Removals will identify, assess and manage health and safety risks associated with our activities, including home and office moves, packing, storage, transportation and specialist handling of heavy or fragile items. Suitable risk assessments will be carried out for typical removals tasks, as well as for any non-routine or higher-risk activities.

Control measures and safe working procedures will be implemented to reduce risks to an acceptable level. These may include the use of appropriate equipment, team lifting techniques, route planning, vehicle loading regulations, safe access and egress, and controls on working in confined spaces, staircases and shared areas such as pavements and entrances.

Training, Information and Supervision

We are committed to providing our staff with the training, information and supervision they need to work safely and competently. All new employees will receive an induction covering company health and safety rules, emergency procedures, manual handling principles, vehicle safety and incident reporting.

Ongoing training will be provided for specific tasks, such as the use of lifting equipment, securing loads, working at height where required and handling delicate or high-value items. Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for overseeing safe working practices on site and for ensuring that staff follow agreed procedures.

Manual Handling and Use of Equipment

The nature of removal work involves significant manual handling activities. Pimlico Removals will minimise manual handling risks by planning work carefully, using suitable equipment and promoting correct techniques. Equipment such as trolleys, dollies, lifting straps, ramps and protective coverings will be used where appropriate to reduce strain and prevent damage.

Employees are trained to assess the weight and shape of items before lifting, to work in teams where necessary and to refuse to lift loads that are unsafe or beyond their capability. Only trained and authorised staff may operate any specialised equipment provided by the company.

Vehicles, Driving and Road Safety

Our vehicles are essential to our business and will be maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition. Regular checks, servicing and inspections will be carried out in line with manufacturer recommendations and legal requirements.

Drivers are required to hold valid licences, follow road traffic laws, and operate vehicles responsibly and courteously. Loads must be packed and secured safely to prevent movement during transit, reduce the risk of injury and protect client property. Route planning will take into account local conditions, access restrictions, loading zones and safe parking.

Client Premises and Public Safety

We recognise our duty to protect clients, their families, employees, neighbours and members of the public when carrying out work at residential and commercial properties. Our crews will work in a considerate and controlled manner to minimise disruption, noise, obstruction and risk.

Where necessary, we will use warning signs, cones or barriers to identify work areas and to reduce the risk of trips, falls or collisions. Stairways, corridors and entrances will be kept as clear as reasonably practicable during the move. Care will be taken to prevent damage to floors, walls, fixtures and fittings through the use of protective coverings and appropriate handling methods.

Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, near misses, injuries and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly to management. Pimlico Removals will investigate incidents to identify root causes and take appropriate action to prevent recurrence. Where required, incidents will also be reported to the relevant authorities in line with legal obligations.

Emergency arrangements, including fire procedures, first aid provision and evacuation routes, will be communicated to employees and followed at client premises as appropriate. Staff must familiarise themselves with on-site emergency arrangements and cooperate fully in the event of an incident.

Occupational Health and Welfare

Pimlico Removals is committed to protecting the long-term health and welfare of our staff. We will strive to prevent work-related ill health by managing risks such as excessive manual handling, prolonged driving, fatigue, noise, stress and exposure to hazardous substances when encountered during removals.

We encourage open communication about any health or fitness issues that may affect an employee’s ability to carry out tasks safely. Reasonable adjustments will be considered where appropriate to support staff in their roles while maintaining safe working standards.

Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
